My wife got a new-to-her car last week and we have joined the electric vehicle club. That of course had to inspire a couple of clues in this puzzle.
Will Nediger did an interesting thing in one of his recent puzzles. He used random number generation to create the grid and some of the letters in the puzzle and invited others to follow suit. So I am jumping on the bandwagon with this puzzle. In the Puzzle Me version below, the 10 randomly-chosen blocks are in grey. The randomly-chosen white spaces are in yellow and the letters in those spaces were also randomly chosen. It led to a grid design that I would not ordinarily produce, and it was a fun exercise in construction. I hope it’s also a fun exercise in solving. Thanks to Norah Sharpe and Matt Gritzmacher for test solving this one.
Be well my friends and I’ll see you back here soon!
I'm a husband, father, psychologist, musician, and crossword constructor living in Catonsville, MD. My puzzles have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times and its syndicates, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Andrews McMeel Universal Syndicate, the American Values Club Crossword, Spyscape Crossword, The Crosswords Club, and crossword apps such as the Redstone Crossword Puzzle App on iOS and Google Play. All of that means I've been published in every newspaper in the United States and many others around the world. Here at Grid Therapy, I can show a bit more of myself than the major publishers can allow. I hope you enjoy your time here on the crossword couch! I'd love to hear from you if you have comments or suggestions. If you're interested in having a custom crossword puzzle created for your event or organization, email me at drtrent (at) gmail.com.
Fun idea, and even more fun puzzle! The gray squares threw me off a bit (I think because some online solvers use a gray square to indicate the active square. It would be cool if you had a start button so the time wouldn’t automatically start when the page loads (I recently discovered this on PuzzleMe), so I could read your description. Congrats on joining the EV club (sorry to hear about the paint?)

Thanks for the tip on the start button! That’s a good idea. Also, the i3 paint is ok. No way am I taking a good car through the automatic wash. The beater car my kids are driving? Sure I’ll do that. Can’t get much worse.

Fun puzzle and clues! 40A clue made me laugh – probably because I am 49A. Same for 58 across – can you even buy this product anymore? Looking forward to the next puzzle (no pressure)
